Wordless/Wordful Wednesday - Laundry?

This past Sunday while I was making breakfast, my husband came into the kitchen and asked me if I had seen Madaline. He has been checking his e-mail and assumed she was in the living room watching Noggin. Nope - for some reason she was suddenly compelled to lay down in the laundry basket in the bathroom. Water, Bear, blanket and of course, her favorite new froggie jammies, - all the usual suspects that she needs each night to go to bed. She laid in there, occasionally calling out to me in the kitchen, with a question or two, until breakfast was ready.

Nite Mama...

Time is a BIG part of my day. One of my favorite times of the day by far is bedtime - For many reasons. The hustle and bustle of the day is finally coming to an end. I am minutes away from the ability to savor a few moments of peace and quiet. A DVR full of shows that fully lack any sort of animated character is awaiting me. But, perhaps, my favorite reason, are those tender moments of sweetness, the ones that cause me to stop in my tracks and bring tiny tears to the corners of my eyes.

Just a few nights ago, as just as many nights since then, Madaline has taken to blowing kisses to me as I walk down the upstairs hall. I usually turn and blow a few back. Madaline always giggles - a giggle that would even put a smile on the face of Ebenezer Scrooge. And, recently, as I am standing half way down the stairs, my vertically challenged self just barely able to peek over the landing, I hear the sweetest words that a mom could ever hear

"Nite Mama...."

*gasp* "Nite Madaline Elizabeth...Mommy & Daddy love you"

"Nite Mama....wuv ewe"

"And, I wuv ewe too Madaline Elizabeth....I wuv ewe too".....

And the Bloggy Love Goes To....

I love presents almost as much as I love kisses from my Mayhem Maker. So, you can only imagine how surprised, shocked, awed and giddy when I was reading Sew Not My Day last week. It seems that Val think I could use some lovin'...and so she bestowed up me the Blog Love Award.

The conditions/requirements for this award are as follows:

1. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
2. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
3. Name 5 things about yourself that people might not know.
4. Nominate how ever many Bloggers you think are a good read.

5. Post links to the blogs you nominate.
6. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

OK. 5 Things about me:

1 - I am brutally honest, which makes people think I am mean

2 - Some people like the smell of gasoline, I really like the smell of freshly laid asphalt

3 - There is no better smell to me than the way Madaline smells right after she gets out of the tub after she takes a bath just as there is no sound in the world to me that is better than the sound of Madaline when she giggles

4 - My husband & I are raising our daughter in the same house that I grew up in.

5 - I could eat a grilled ham & cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread every single day and never grow tired of it

Ok. First off, I hate that I have to even say this, but, I read a LOT of GREAT blogs. My reader never has any less than about 50 new posts for me to read. That being said, I HATE that I have to pick and choose and make a list. But, I will do it. So, here are the folks and their blog post that I just can not live without right now.

My Messy Paradise

The Young and the Relentless

Adventures in Babywearing

Playgroups are No Place for Children

Check them out....give them some love. Me thinks they are a 'good' read:

Its "Not just for stay-at-home Moms"

Does this mean we are famous now???

I am quoted in an article over at Real Mom's Guide that talks about a recent study that says that Stay at home moms dominate social media. Interestingly, it was fun to point out that I am a social media junkie, even thought I am a WOHM and not a SAHM.

HUGE thanks to Stephanie Precourt, a/k/a Baby Steph, from over at Adventures in Babywearing, for the opportunity to share my thoughts on the what and why I use social media.

Wordless Wednesday - The Symbolism of Shoes

A few weeks ago, I posted about how we were saying Good Bye to Summer and Welcoming Fall.

We are slowly working our way down the Autumn to-do list - apple picking, breaking out the crock pot and longs pants & sweatshirts.

But, perhaps, the most important thing, and the hardest battle to date - getting Madaline to wear shoes. A few of you may remember this picture. Since she was an infant, Madaline would be and is is my little nudist. She would run around butt naked, 24/7/365 if we let her. And, if she can't be naked, then she at the very least has to be barefoot. *sigh* We are not home five minutes every evening and she is asking - "Mommy, take my socks off", "Mommy, naked baby, I wanna be naked baby", "Naked baby, naked baby, naked baby, NOW!".

So - over the weekend we had a farewell to Flip Flop party. We went out to lunch, stopped and let her pick out new shoes (see above). The husband and I hyped it up that fall was here, and that all the good little boys and girls had to start to wear shoes and socks now. We even went so far to say that Mommy and Daddy would be packing away their flip flops too. *gasp - as Mommy usually wears hers until the first good snow fall of the season* We came home, put all the flips flops in a box and said our tearful goodbyes. Ole' box of Flops now resides in the bottom of a closet.

It's only been three days - but, I think we are headed in the right direction - as last night I noticed Madaline had socks on too.

Motionless

Madaline is always in constant motion. Always. Unless she is sick. It seems that she has caught an end of summer, welcome to fall cold.

*sigh*

*please excuse the load of towels that clearly need to be folded. Laundry is not my strong suit*

And, well, as awful as it is, I did get my camera out last night to shoot a few shots of her - because, I needed to. I needed to record and capture this complete lack of motion - as proof, that, she can in fact, be, motionless.

The Ollie Chronicles: An Impromptu Visit

Aunt Ollie came for an impromptu visits yesterday. She left back in August to start her sophomore year at William Smith College, which also happens to be my Alma mater.

Madaline was BEYOND (even that is even possible) EXCITED to see her.

She got her to pull her around outback in the wagon.

Conned her into letting her have another apple as she attempts to eat a dent in what we picked over last weekend.

I tried my hardest to get a decent photo of the two of them toghter.

Madaline did not feel that it was necessary to cooperated

My sister and I thought we would get a little silly.

And, SO, eventually, we got this:

and FINALLY this:

Mission accomplished

Wordless Wednesday - Amongst the Flowers

"May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through" -an Irish Blessing

Picking Apples

We went apple picking this past Sunday. Madaline, myself and my mom.

We picked 30 pounds of Macintosh Apples

Yep. 30 pounds of apples.

And, my Mayhem Maker has been trying to make dent in the 30 pounds of apples we picked the last few days, by attempting her eat her body weight in apples...

Saying Good Bye To Summer

Today, we bought long pants, long sleeved shirts, new jeans at Target - and a sweatshirt is now required for outside playtime after dinner.

The night temperatures have been hovering in the 40's here for weeks. Each morning the grass is gleaming heavily with morning dew.

My sweet, sweet friend shared a peck of apples with me the other day from the local orchard that is only open in late summer early fall when the apples come into season.

After nap time today, the same sweet sweet friend and I are taking her boys and my Mayhem Maker to the local playground, one last time before school starts next week.

Driving over the side hill today to take Madaline to her 2 year well child visit, I noticed that the leaves have started to turn their pretty autumn hues.

I have been digging into my recipe collection and am looking forward to coming home to a house filled with savory scents wafting out of our crock pot.

Good Bye Summer.........and WELCOME FALL!

Maddy & Daddy Tuesday

My husband sends me a text message every morning when he and Madaline finally get up for the day. My husband works unconventional hours now that he's cooking again - and because he's the bestest husby in the universe that when he has days off that fall on Monday - Friday, he keeps Madaline home with him (because he's a cool dad like that and it helps us save $$ on daycare).

The Husband: Good Morning
Me: Good Morning! You two are up early (I got the text just as I was pulling into the parking lot at work, about 5 minutes after 8)
The Husband: She got us up. And she's in a good mood (Madaline didn't get a NAP yesterday)
Me: That's a good thing.
The Husband: Yeah. We had a conversation from bed to bed. (Our bedrooms share a wall - and our headboard and her crib are on that same wall)
Me: You did?
and then he sent me this: (I cleaned it up a bit to post - as it was sent in one big giant text message)

Maddy: *hollering* Mommy sleeping?
The Husband: She's at work
Maddy: Do Daddy work?
The Husband: No
Maddy: Daddy home all day?
The Husband: Yep - Daddy home all day
Maddy: Can we get up now?
The Husband: Yes Bug, we can get up now
Maddy: Ok Daddy - Can you get me?

Me:Ohhhhh. That is so stinkin cute!
The Husband: Yes it was...
