10/18/07 - NO Weight Gain for Maddy

We had a our one month follow-up GI appt. yesterday. I think it went well, I really like Maddy's GI, so I think that helps. We discussed how she seems to be incredibly refluxy in the am and when we are on the downward side of the 12 hours till the next dose, that she also seems to be having some reflux issue - so he agreed that we should give her a full 15mg solutab in the am, and then 7.5 (or half a solutab) for her pm dose. He also wants us to continue using the formula we are using (and they didn't have any samples or formula coupons ), and want me to think about changing her feeding schedule - we are currently feeding 5oz. 6x a day, and he suggested that we move towards 6oz. 5x a day. I expressed some concern to him that she sometimes archs her back and squels when she is eating, but he examined her throat, and there was no redness, so he thought taht perhaps the increase in the prevacid might provide some relief in that area.

The only area that I say some major concern was that our little bug has not gained any weight. Which, makes nooooo sense to me. She has only been refluxing between 1-2 tablespoons to 1 ounce of formula up in the am and she might reflux up about a 1/2 a bottle at the sitters, and she usually does not reflux up anything from her evening feeding. She weighed 10lbs. 5oz on Sept. 28th when I took her for her regular 2 months ped appointment, and about a month later, she is still only 10lbs 5ozs. She is incredibly active for a baby - rarely sleeps and loves to play on the floor, in her swing , or in her bouncy seat - she is always wiggeling around, waveing her arms and kicking her legs.....

He also did not seem concerned that some days it takes forever for her to have a BM and it makes her miserable. Apparently as longs as she is not passing nuggets, and since she is fairly regualar - usually an am & pm, that there is no cause for concern. He did not seem concerned that there are some night where I have to pace the floor for about 2.5 hours, holding her facing out, in one arm, down my body to bring her comfort - (I am building some great muscles......but it's killing my back....) - and that all because she goes.....e v e n t u a l l y .....

The GI also warned us that her GERD could get worse over the next few months, and seeing how we are seeing an increase in the spitting up, we are most likley headed that direction. . But, he also said that, maybe with the increase in the meds, that it may not.

So.....this am was our first increase in we will have to see how it goes.
