Stealing Time

We have had an awesome start to our summer.
And, last week, the week of 4th of July, was NO exception.

This year we have an empire pass - this allows us to go to the State Park pool when ever we want.  Swimming lessons are winding down.  I usually don't get as tan as I am now until the middle of August.  We have been eating lots of ice cream.  And, I have been able to steal time to spend at a special someone's family cottage.

And, of course, the weather has just been phenomenal.  I like the warmth that comes with the summer sun.  It soothes my soul and warms my heart.  There are about 8 weeks of summer left for us.  And, if this past week is any indication of how the rest of summer is going to be, then, I'm pretty sure that we are going to have one heck of an AWESOME summer.

Baby Take a Bow

We do very little in our family that isn't steeped in tradition.  Madaline's first pair of shoes was tradition.  Madaline playing soccer last spring was tradition.  Madaline taking swimming lessons is tradition.  And, so, naturally, it was tradition for her to also take a ballet, tumbeling and tap class.  And, of course, it would have to be at the exact same dance studio I took lesson from 30 years ago.  *sigh*

And, so, every Saturday morning, from September until this past weekend, I helped her pull on her starry pink footless tights, the smallest black leotard that I could find in the store, her fluttery pink dance skirt and I would braid her hair.  She would shrug her way into her favorite grey sweater - "Mama, the studio is cold and it's just like your sweater...Mama...." And, off she would go.  45 minutes perfecting her pliĆ©, her forward roll and shuffle step.

But, this Saturday morning things went a bit differently.  We sat together in the living room, her nervous yet excited chatter filled my ears as I  twirled endless strands of hair into corkscrew curls.  "Am I pretty Mama...am I? Am I?" I highlight her already bright eyes with equally bright blue eyeshadow and swept a rosy pink blush over the apples of her cheeks.  "Pucker up buttercup" I said as I painted her lips candy apple red.  I helped her pull on her tan tights and the golden yellow costume that was lined with endless rows of sparkly sequins.  When we were finished, she twirled before me on her tip toes and did a delicate curtsey to which I finally said, "Yes, you are more than pretty....you look magnificently beautiful"....
And, later that night, the curtain came down, and the dance year had come to and end.  Two spectacular performances. A grand stage.  A whole row in the audience filled with people who love and adore her.  A little girl so in her element that she tap danced her heart out as if she didn't have a care in the world. I couldn't be more proud or more in awe.

Weekend REwind

We had a weekend about a close to perfection as one can have.....

Aunt Olly is HOME for Christmas. Madaline & I spent the entire weekend together just doing what it is that we do best...puttering around the house, visiting my bestie for coffee and late lunch out like fancy ladies. We even threw in a late Sunday snuggle and cookie baking session for good measure.

It finally snowed here over the weekend --- that was enough to finally make it seem like it was time to get out my snowmen. It was fun to listen to Madaline ask questions as I placed each one of the entertainment center and did my best to artfully arrange them.

Christmas is just right around the corner. Are you ready?

Coming Home

Every day for a week now, each Morning she says to me "Aunt Olly will be home soon". I nod, and softly reply, "Soon baby girl...soon". But, this morning, like the 7 mornings past when an excited little voice said "Mommy....Aunt Olly will be home soon" I was able to reply "Tomorrow baby girl...our beloved Olly will be home tomorrow".
